Badminton Scotland Court Officials Mission Statement

Badminton Scotland Court Officials strive to uphold all of the guidelines and governance that are issued by BWF, Badminton Europe and Badminton Scotland, to help competition and play proceed fairly and impartially, by ensuring all of the rules and laws set forth in the Laws of Badminton by BWF are adhered to.

As a team of volunteer Officials, we strive to perform all of our duties on and off court with the highest level of integrity and professionalism we can achieve.

It is our commitment, to all badminton governing bodies and the sport of badminton itself, to provide mentoring, training, leadership and impartiality, to all of our officials, whether inexperienced or seasoned, by providing them with the confidence and skill needed to perform all their duties both nationally and internationally.

We are committed to hosting training courses and workshops around Scotland throughout the year, with the goal of introducing prospective officials to the “on court experience”, or providing experienced officials with a chance to further their skills and furnish them with the support needed to attend events abroad.

Who We Are | Court Officials | Badminton Scotland

We are a diverse and fun group of people, coming from near and far, that have all joined together here in Scotland to provide the badminton and Para-badminton communities with the highest level of Court Officiating.

As a team, consisting of Umpires and Line Judges, we have many decades of experience. Some of our Officials are invited and travel to the top International badminton events in the world, including the Olympics, Youth Olympics, Paralympics, Junior and Senior World Championships, World Tour Finals, Thomas and Uber Cups, The All England, The Denmark Open, German Open and Swiss Open and many others tournaments throughout Europe.

However, you don’t have to travel far to achieve International level, as our whole team plays a major role in hosting the annual Scottish Open right here in Scotland each year, which sees player entries from all over the world and is the third oldest event in badminton world history.

Nationally, we are on court all through the junior and adult competitions from U11 events through all the age events, to the Scottish Nationals and a select number of Para-badminton competitions.

If you are new to badminton, or new to being a Court Official, our members will provide you with all the tools needed including on-court mentorship and in-depth training, to give you the confidence and experience to follow your dreams to attend any one of the major events throughout Europe and beyond.

If you are an experienced Official already but have found yourself in Scotland, we would welcome your skill, expertise and experience to join us, in what is truly a “family” of Officials.

We work to a very high, professional standard, but have lots of fun, we support each other at all times on and off the court.
