Badminton Scotland mourns for Stewart Coghill

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Stewart Coghill, who died peacefully at home on Monday, September 16, 2019.

Stewart was a key administrator of Badminton in Scotland, serving as Company Secretary for a number of years. He was also heavily involved with Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland and was an honorary life member of both organisations.

He was husband of Louise, father to Derek and Judy, father-in-law of Andrew, grandpa to Heather and Alister and brother of Nancie and Elma.

Ronnie Conway, a former President and Chair of Badminton Scotland, said:

“I was so sad to read of the death of Stewart. I remember him very  clearly, particularly  from my own badminton playing days in the 1970’s.

“He was one of a band of dedicated amateurs who gave so freely for the love of the sport.

“Needless to say as a callow youth I took all of this simply for granted at the time. It was only in my later years as President and then Chair of the SBU did I realise how much of his time he had given and that volunteers like Stewart are the lifeblood of the sport.

“Stewart was always a calming and reassuring presence in every situation, with a great sense of integrity and who could always be relied upon to do the right thing.

“All our thoughts are with his family at this time.”

There will be a family committal, followed by a thanksgiving Service in Greenbank Church, Braidburn Terrace, Edinburgh EH10 6ES at 2.30 pm, on Thursday, September 26, 2019, to which all family and friends are invited.

No flowers please but donations may be made at the service in aid of The Salvation Army.
