Yonex East of Scotland Junior Championships 2019

We were delighted to welcome competitors from as far afield as Orkney to Northumberland. As always, spectators witnessed a very high standard of badminton in all four age groups over the course of the weekend culminating in some very competitive semi-finals and finals on Sunday.

There were no triple winners this year but the following players each won two events; Lewis Smith (under 13 age group), Josh Taylor and Brooke Stalker (under 15 age group), Rachel Broadley (under 17 age group) and Rachel Cameron (under 19 age group). It was unfortunate that the winner of the under 19 men’s singles, Callum Smith, suffered an injury and had to retire during the men’s doubles final

Lothian is very grateful to Yonex, ably supported by Gannon Sports, who have now sponsored this event for 19 years. We are also very grateful to the members of Lothian Badminton Group and the Court Officials of BADMINTONscotland for their assistance during the event, as well as to the players for the high standard of play, co-operation and sportsmanship demonstrated during the course of the tournament. We were delighted to welcome former internationalist and a past president of BADMINTONscotland, Christine Black, to present the prizes.

The Moira Skene trophies, which are presented to the Lothian players who produced the most meritorious performances during the course of the East Junior Championships, were awarded this year to Finlay Jack and Rachel Broadley.
