Grimleys win silver at Portuguese International

Christopher and Matthew Grimley scored their first podium result in senior international competition over the weekend when they won men’s doubles silver at the Portuguese International Championships.

The 19-year-olds have plenty of experience competing in the latter stage of competitions, having won silverware in various international junior events, but this was the first time they have competed in the final of a senior international ranking event.

Facing Ko-Chi Chang and Fang-Je Lee the Scots made a strong start and were never behind in the first game, winning it 21-16.

But from there the Chinese Taipei pair started to take control of the match, winning the second game 21-16 before claiming victory in the third 21-13 on their first match point.

But despite the defeat, the Grimleys can be more than satisfied with their performances having reached the final without dropping a game, including winning through two qualifying rounds to reach the main draw.
