Christopher Grimley up for Badminton Europe Young Player Award

Christopher Grimley has been nominated for the Badminton Europe Young Player of the Year award.

He is one of four candidates to have been nominated – the others are Frenchmen Fabien Delrue and Arnaud Merkle as well as Line Christophersen of Denmark – with the award to be made at the 7th BEC Awards Gala in Kiev, Ukraine on 27 April.

Grimley enjoyed a stellar year in 2018, getting off to a flier by winning men’s singles and doubles at the Swedish Junior in January and men’s doubles at the Hungarian Junior in February.

A successful April saw him take men’s singles gold at the Hellas Junior and a silver medal in men’s singles at the Cyprus Junior before he returned to winning ways in August, claiming the Lithuanian Junior men’s singles and doubles and the Bulgarian Junior men’s doubles.

In September he and his brother Matthew won silver at the European Junior men’s doubles and his form was such that he was selected as the only male representative for Team GB in the badminton competition at the Youth Olympic Games in October.

Grimley also competed at the World Junior Championships in November before making his senior Scotland debut in December at the European Mixed Team Championships.
