Gold for Keryn Swan and Angus Meldrum in York

Keryn Swan hit double top over the weekend, winning U17 girls’ singles and mixed doubles gold at the Yorkshire U17 Silver tournament.

Although unseeded, she won all her matches in Group A, including a superb 15-11 11-15 15-7 win over top seed Annie Zhu, to reach the semi-finals.

A straightforward 15-6 15-9 win over fourth seed Millie Hyde set up a final against Emily Harper, which Swan won 15-9 15-10 to take the gold medal, but she wasn’t finished there.

Again unseeded in the mixed doubles, Swan teamed up with Angus Meldrum to win all three of their group games, including two hard-fought three-game wins.

That was followed up by another three-game win in the semi-finals over top seeds George Railton and Catherine Wong, before winning the final 15-10 15-13 over second seeds Akshay Narayan and Hyde to take the title.

Leo McMillan, Logan Ireland and Nathan Findlater also travelled to York, with the pick of their results coming from Ireland who won all three of his group games to reach the quarter-finals where defeat to third seed Railton ended his campaign.
