Scotland off to a winning start

cotland got off to a winning start yesterday at the Li Ning BWF World Junior Championships in Canada.

The young Scots opened their Mixed Team campaign with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Slovakia, winning every match except the girls’ doubles, by which time the overall result was secure.

Matthew Grimley and Rachel Andrew won a three-game opening mixed doubles 21-8 21-23 21-12 before Joshua Apiliga and Rachel Sugden won their boys’ and girls’ singles respectively.

Apiliga and Grimley returned to the court to win their boys’ doubles, then Slovakia salvaged some pride with a three-game win over Lauren Middleton and Sarah Sidebottom in the girls’ doubles.

On Tuesday Scotland face Spain at 12.00hrs local time (17.00hrs GMT), then Czech Republic at 19.00hrs local time (midnight GMT)
