National Junior Squad
This is a performance related programme, charged with the specific goal of producing athletes capable of performing at the highest level. Players selected for this squad have the appropriate attributes (in the opinion of National Head coaches) to eventually compete and win for Scotland at Senior level and who have the potential to be selected for and to compete and win for the GB World Class programme in the future.
Each block of the national junior squad runs for approximately 3 months; and selected athletes train several times a week at one of the National training bases: National Badminton Academy, Scotstoun; Stevenson College, Edinburgh; and Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth.

Within each block of the National Junior Squad, certain players are offered sparring positions. These players are integrated and take full part in each session, undertaking shadow badminton work, on-court routines, off-court conditioning work and games play.
The focus of the Observation squads is on allowing continual development of junior players in each of technical, tactical and physical work, as well as games play. Observation squads are held four times each season, and take place over a weekend in Glasgow. Individual invitations are offered to junior players, who at the time are not members of the National Junior Squad, but who may be sparrers. Coaches running these squads are all members of the National Junior squad coaching team; and they will constantly review all players across Scotland allowing maximum movement in and out of these squads, for players at the appropriate level.
