The European Senior Championships will be held from Sunday 21 to Saturday 27 September 2014, in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. Official documentation is attached, for information. Please note key dates for hotel bookings, transport requests etc.
All 5 events will be played in the following age groups: 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 60+, 65+ and 70+.
A player is eligible to compete provided they fulfil the age requirements on 1st January of the year in which the Championships are played (the youngest player must have been born in 1978). Please note that a player is eligible to enter an event for players younger than the age group he or she qualifies to play in. He or she may not, however, play in the same event in more than one age group.
As per Badminton Europe regulations (attached), in each age group we are restricted to being able to enter a maximum of 4 players in men’s singles, 4 players in ladies singles and a maximum of 4 pairs comprising only Scottish players. However, a Member Association may enter a maximum of eight pairs comprising one of our players partnering a player from another Member Association, provided always that the total number of players from any Member Association does not exceed eight players in any event.
If it so happens that the number of Scottish players/pairs interested in entering the tournament exceeds these restrictions, the decision on which players are entered will be made by the Veterans Selection Committee.
Entry fees are €40 per player for singles events and €50 per pair in doubles events. Each player will be responsible for paying their own entry fees, as well as making all arrangements for the trip (transport/accommodation etc etc), but BADMINTONscotland will submit the entries to Badminton Europe. Players are responsible for ensuring that their clothing / printing etc meets BWF regulations.
Further information on the tournament itself can be found on the Badminton Europe website at- http://events.badmintoneurope.com/cms/?cmsid=340&pageid=5804.
