The Renfrew Area Schools Badminton Association (RASBA) Secondary Championships were held on the 26 January at the Lagoon Centre, Paisley. An entry of 46 players from 13 schools attended from across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, taking part in singles and doubles events at U14/U16 and U19 age groups.
This event was organised for the first time in 4 years and was planned and delivered by Alan Martin, Active schools East Renfrewshire, Craig Robertson, High performance badminton coach at the Glasgow school of sport and Donnie Wood, Active schools Renfrewshire, all of whom sit on the RASBA planning group.
The top players from the tournament will be selected for the RASBA area team, representing Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde at the Scottish schools secondary championships taking place on 9 & 10 March at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth.
A team of 17 players will be selected to attend the event which will see the best players in Scotland competing.
We were lucky to have lots of volunteers and senior pupils from Active schools Renfrewshire helping and supporting on the day. They were excellent as always and made sure the event went as smoothly as possible.
With this event now established in the calendar, it’s hoped badminton in the area will get even more of a boost!
