TWINS Julie Hogg and Karen Stalker were on the winning trail at the Yonex Scottish International Veterans Championships at sportscotland’s Inverclyde National Centre in Largs over the weekend.
They won all three matches in the women’s doubles 45 class, clinching top spot with a 21-14 19-21 21-12 win over Lynn Robb and Alison Johnstone.
Hogg also won the mixed title when she and Alan McMillan beat Steve Thomson and Jill Smith 21-17 21-15. And for good measure BADMINTONscotland President Stalker took the Mixed 40 class with Craig Robertson, beating Brian Juul and Lene Struwe 21-16 21-19 in the final.
Robertson and McMillan teamed up to beat Carsten Langgaard and Lasse Otzen to take the men’s doubles 40 class in the tightest of all the deciders, winning 21-19 25-23.
Aileen Travers claimed two 40 age group titles, winning the singles with a 21-14 21-10 win over Kirsten Thomson and partnering former Olympic star Anne Robertson to the doubles with three straight-game victories and a walkover to top their group.
In the Men’s 55 class Dan Travers beat doubles partner Leon Douglas 21-11 21-8 to take the singles title and then the pair teamed up to take on Bernt Christiansen and Jes Vingloev in the doubles final only to lose 12-21 21-18
Travers’ regular mixed doubles partner Christine Black took the 55 singles with a 21-6 21-4 win over Ursula Heale.
In the 50 age group Diana Koleva took the mixed title with Per Juul Ulrich after a 21-18 21-19 win over Graham Keith and Carol Dunbar.
Keith and his brother Gordon were also out of luck in the men’s doubles when Ulrich and Colin Campbell beat them 21-13 21-18 to finish top of the group.
In the 60 age group Alistair Davidson and Ewen MacDonnell took the doubles by beating John Gardner and Steve Sellick 17-21 21-12 21-12. Davidson and Linda Smith took the mixed with wins over David Barr and Margaret Gibson and Ian Smith and Margaret Emery.
But Barr and Jim McCulloch won all three of their group matches to take the 65 men’s doubles.
