Badminton Europe have decided to continue staging the biennial European Men's and Women's Team Championships. There had been fears that the event would drop off the calendar after the BWF's decision for them to continue purely at the discretion of the continental federations.
This is because they will no longer serve as a qualifying round for the Thomas and Uber Cup finals, although any Continental tournament will at least still carry world ranking points. Badminton Europe plan to stage the European Under 15 championships in conjunction with the senior men's and women's event from the next one in 2014 but a venue has yet to be announced.
Going forward, teams will now qualify for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals based on rankings but three men and three women's teams from Europe will be eligible.
It means Scotland players could face a busy team schedule in the countdown to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Next year there is the Sudirman Cup world mixed team championships as well as the European mixed team championships.
