With badminton being one of the more popular participation sports at universities in Scotland, the BADMINTONscotland Ambassador programme was launched in 2012 in partnership with Scottish Student Sport, aiming to strengthen bonds with university badminton clubs through the appointment of student representatives to the role of ‘Ambassador’. After an influx of applications, 8 students have been selected and are now responsible for promoting active links between the national governing body of badminton in Scotland and student badminton clubs. Each Ambassador has an individual remit within their own personal university of study, where they will focus attention on developing badminton participation within tournaments and clubs while establishing opportunities for others to volunteer in the sport or begin the coaching ladder in Scotland.

The first meeting between all BADMINTONscotland's Ambassadors took place during the 2012 Scottish International Championships held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. The meeting was co-chaired by BADMINTONscotland's Development Team and Scottish Student Sport Representative Iain Stewart, providing an opportunity for introductions and deep discussion into club badminton within the student community. From this initial get together, several key action points have been developed for each Ambassador to take forward into 2013 within their respective clubs, also working in partnership with each other.
