Blair and Bankier go down fighting

Scotland 's Imogen Bankier and England 's former Scotland international Robert Blair bowed out bravely in the quarter-finals of the Thailand Grand Prix Gold in Bangkok today.

The Bank of Scotland Centenary International mixed doubles champions went down in the last eight for the second week running, losing today to China 's second seeds Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Jawen 21-9 21-14 in 31 minutes.

But Blair and Bankier, beaten in last week 's Djarum Indonesian Open quarter-finals in Jakarta, went down fighting, clawing back from 11-1 down in the second game to within three points of their opponents at 15-12 before the Chinese pulled away again.

And on an adjacent court England 's eighth seeds David Lindley (Notts) and Suzanne Rayappan (Herts) put up a gritty display before falling to Thailandís third seeds Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam 21-14 21-17 in 30 minutes.
