3rd Welsh Disabled Badminton Championships

Nile McVeigh & Deirdre NagleThe 3rd Welsh hosted 4 Nations Disabled Badminton Championships are scheduled to be held in Cardiff over the weekend of 15th to 17th August.  The event, hosted and organised by the Welsh Badminton Union, comes on the back of the first Scottish disabled badminton tournament held recently in Largs.

Wales has a strong record of encouraging such tournaments, which attract significant levels of interest from a range of disabled athletes keen to showcase their playing talent.

There are four separate event categories contested at the championships: wheelchair, standing, learning disabilities and dwarf.

Players are classified into different standards, from level 1 through to level 8, after being assessed on their individual badminton skills. The winners of each group either compete against one another in the final or are ranked, by group, in accordance with their playing performance and results.

The Scottish squad, which numbered 17 at last year’s tournament, will be aiming to build on their success when they returned north of the border with a clutch of seven gold and 11 silver medals from all of the events combined.

Further information on the event can be obtained from the Welsh Badminton Union by phoning 02920 497225 or by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . The entry form can be downloaded here
