There was success for
Scotland’s veterans in
Dublin at the weekend as they swept to their third victory in as many years in the annual Veterans Triangular International.
Contested between
Scotland,
Ireland and
Wales for the Chick Doyle Perpetual Trophy, it is the 3rd staging of the annual match.
Scotland won the inaugural event in 2006 and have successfully defended their title twice since then.
The tournament, hosted by Badminton Ireland, attracted some of the best veteran players from the home nations who competed against each other in men’s and ladies singles & doubles and mixed doubles events in 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+ and 60+ age groups.
And it was a superb team effort as a dominant
Scotland only dropped 11 points throughout the whole weekend, beating
Ireland 29-8,
Wales 35-2, and an Ireland B Team 28-1. At the end of a long weekend,
Scotland had won 92 out of a total 103 points available to them.
It all adds up to a fantastic season for
Scotland’s seniors, who also achieved their best ever result against
England in the annual Robert McCoig Trophy match, played at Inverclyde in January this year.
