U13 Squad Selection Criteria

Invite to this squad will be through identification of young players throughout Scotland through National or Regional Talent days based on physical and in some cases technical testing. Invites may also be awarded based on results at appropriate competitions; and, in some cases, referrals to the National Development Coach.

The invites will be made at the sole discretion of the National Development Coach

Continued involvement within squad will be primarily focused on achieving technical and on-going physical development outcomes to the satisfaction of the National Development Coach or in some cases results within appropriate competitions.

When players in this squad reach the age of 12, age-specific bleep test results will also need to be met to be selected for or remain in the squad.

Fitness Testing

All athletes with invites to National Squads will be required to undertake a fitness test. Achievement levels will be set for each athlete based on their initial test results. Players who are injured or sick will need to produce a sickness line from a doctor or physio advising the reasons why they are unable to sit the test.  Before any re-selections occur all players must sit a fitness test otherwise consideration can only be given for a Guest position until the player is able to sit and pass the test.

Additionally, it is a condition of continued membership of the squad that each player meets the appropriate age level fitness shuttle run target.  These are listed below, and are non-negotiable.  These fitness shuttle run targets must be met at the January 2012 fitness testing session (date to be confirmed).
