Sponsorship Summary

Bank of Scotland has proudly sponsored BADMINTONscotland since 1999.  In 2007, Bank of Scotland renewed the sponsorship for a further three years.  The Bank's support has ensured sustained development of the game across Scotland; catering for players of both grassroots and elite levels.

Bank of Scotland's support, both financial and resource, has helped BADMINTONscotland consistently deliver; the International Championships, National Junior Championships, Badminton Carnivals and Badminton Bonanzas.  Since 1999, an estimated 100,000 children have been introduced to the sport.

For season 2007-2008, two new programmes were added to the Bank's support for Badminton in Scotland, the Bank of Scotland Primary Sportshall Challenge and the Bank of Scotland Junior Shuttle Awards.

Developing talent

The Bank's support has nurtured Scottish International talent, most recently, Gordon Thomson and Imogen Bankier.  Both took part in Bank of Scotland junior championships during their school days and are now enjoying success on the international stage.  Gordon is also a Bank of Scotland ambassador.

A new element of the Bank's support, the Bank of Scotland Primary Sportshall Challenge engages primary school children across Scotland to compete for their school.  Regional heats take place, culminating in a National Final for the highest scoring schools.  Over 1,400 took part in its first year alone.

ìI used to attend Bank of Scotland Badminton programmes like this when I first began playing.  They are a great way for school children to get active and learn more about the sport, but above all they are great fun too.î Gordon Thomson, 2007 Menís Singles Scottish National Champion and Scotland Internationalist.

Bank of Scotland Junior Shuttle Awards

The Junior Shuttle Awards are all about developing badminton skills amongst young people throughout Scotland.  There are three levels of achievement, Bronze, Silver and Gold.  So far, over 500 awards have been achieved by young people in schools, badminton clubs and leisure centres throughout Scotland.

ìThe different levels of awards give the children something to strive for and helps not only with their development on the court but the criteria they have to pass in order to achieve each level also teaches them about match preparation and sportsmanship.î David Johnson, Cumbernauld Juniors Badminton Coach.
