| Kirsty ranked No. 24 in new Junior World Rankings |
|
Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour has been rewarded for her successful badminton campaign over the last year by being named in the top 25 in women's singles in the Badminton World Federation's inaugural World Junior Rankings list. The 18-year-old from Bothwell, who has reached the last 16 at the senior Scottish International Championships in Glasgow for the last two years, is ranked at No. 24 in the junior list. Already this season Kirsty has won the Northumberland Under 19 title and reached the semi-finals of the Yonex Welsh International and the Turkey Open at senior level on her way to No. 145 in yesterday's senior BWF world rankings. In September she also won the women’s singles bronze medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games on the Isle of Man. The BWF plan to update the junior rankings on a weekly basis, just like the senior rankings. Anne Smillie, Chief Executive of BADMINTONscotland, said today: "We would like to offer our congratulations to Kirsty on this significant breakthrough and we look forward to her forthcoming results carrying her even higher up the rankings." |
