Semi final place for Bankier and Adcock

Imogen BankierGlasgow’s Imogen Bankier and English partner Chris Adcock continued their fine form at the Bitburger Open in Saarbrucken today, reaching the semi finals with a 21-14 24-22 win over Adcock’s compatriots Robin Middleton and Samantha Ward.

The Anglo-Scottish partnership made a quick start to the match and were always in control of the first game, racing into a 12-3 lead before closing it out 21-14.

The second was a much tighter affair with Bankier and Adcock battling back from an 18-13 deficit before taking the tie 21-14 24-22 on their fourth match point.

The pair will now face a tough semi final encounter tomorrow against the winners of the match between Japan’s second seeds Ikeda Shintaro and Reiko Shiota or fifth seeded Chinese pair Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei.

Bankier has so far made an impressive start to the season and her form is encouraging with so many major events on the horizon including the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October and the Bank of Scotland International Championships in Glasgow in November.
