Bankier and Adcock win in Germany

Imogen BankierGLASGOW’S Imogen Bankier and English partner Chris Adcock are through to the second round of the mixed doubles at the Bitburger Open, being played this week in Saarbrucken, Germany.

The pair defeated the German partnership of Johannes Schottler and Sandra Marinello in 39 minutes, winning a tight first end 21-18 before a 21-10 reverse in the second levelled the match. The third game was another close affair until at 13-13 Bankier and Adcock took control, taking the match 21-18 10-21 21-15. 

The Anglo-Scottish partnership will now face Belgian pair Jonathan Gillis and Severine Corvilain tomorrow for a place in the quarter finals.

Following her performances at the Yonex BWF World Championships last week, her good form this week is a further boost for Bankier as she prepares for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October and the Bank of Scotland Linda SloanInternational Championships in Glasgow in November.

Yesterday Linda Sloan, also from Glasgow, fought her way through to the last round of qualifying in the women’s singles, but then went out to Icelandic player Ragna Ingolsfsdottir 21-14 21-15.
