The 12-strong squad is packed with talent and will tackle the team event first where they will be highly motivated. Scotland went agonisingly close to winning the event last year in Cardiff, finishing in a three way tie at the top of the table before a heartbreaking games countback put England and Wales above them. Scotland face Wales in their opening match on Friday before taking on England and Northern Ireland. The individual events will take place on Saturday and Sunday and Scotland’s players will be looking to build on last season’s success where Kirsty Gilmour won the singles and Caitlin Pringle and Emma Cook won the doubles. This year, Prestwick’s Josh Neil, the Bank of Scotland Under 15 singles and doubles champion, leads the boys’ challenge while Erskine’s Rebekka Findlay and Duns’ Lucy Nevin, the Under 15 singles winners for the last two seasons, will be bidding to match Kirsty Gilmour’s singles success last September in South Wales.

SCOTLAND’S Under 17 stars will head for the Gateshead International Arena this week to compete in the badminton competition at the UK School Games from 3-5 September.
Motherwell twins Sophie and Hannah Morrison are the youngest members of the squad at 13 but they have already signalled their potential, having won the Bank of Scotland Under 15 girls doubles last season. The previous winners, Haddington pair Hannah Laing and Megan Richardson, are also in the squad.
