|
An 11-strong Scottish squad has been named to compete in the European Senior Championships to be held in Dundalk, Ireland, from September 27-October 2. Christine Black, BADMINTONscotland’s President, will again lead the way. Two years ago she won the European 50+ women’s doubles with Dutch player Marjan Ridder in Punta Umbria. This time Christine moves up an age-group to 55+ and will partner England’s Christine Crossley, who she beat in the final two years ago, having also partnered Crossley to European success in 2006. She will also team up with 1983 world men’s doubles champion Jesper Helledie in the mixed doubles. Christine is also going for singles success, having reached the semi-finals two years ago in Punta Umbria before losing to Crossley. Former Scotland President Leon Douglas will be looking to improve on his runners-up spot last time in the men’s doubles. But he must do so without long-time partner Dan Travers. This time Douglas will partner Austria’s Tariq Farooq in the doubles as well as teaming up with Margaret Robertson in the doubles. Like Black, he is up for three events as he will contest the singles as well. The full Scotland squad is: 35+ Men’s Doubles 50+ Mixed Doubles 55+ Women’s Singles Men’s Doubles Women’s Doubles Mixed Doubles 60+ Mixed Doubles 65 + Men’s Doubles Mixed Doubles
