Scottish Physical Disability National Squad

The Scottish PD SquadOn Saturday the 21st August the first meeting of the Scottish PD squad successfully ran at Carronvale House, Larbert. The squad contains invited players who have competed successfully in 4 Nations and European events over the past few seasons and is another major step towards creating international team competition between the 4 nations and countries further afield.

Players attended from a range of playing categories and were grouped for the squad into standing and wheelchair sections so that the coaching programme could cater for each individual whilst trying to provide focused work and advice that players could take back to local squads to work on in their training. The coaching team was led by Lyndon Williams who devised a programme containing four sections, the players initially focused on an area of technical development, followed by a speed/reaction session then physical work before concluding the day with games.

The coaches and players worked extremely well together and the entire squad was a huge success from the perspective of both the players and the coaches. This will hopefully prove to be another valuable and exciting opportunity for Scottish players which will further expand the growth of Scottish Badminton for disabled athletes.
