DAVID CRAIG, one of Scotland's most prominent badminton umpires, has been selected to officiate at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games in October.

Craig, from Newburgh in Fife, is a hugely experienced umpire both domestically and abroad. He has officiated in India before, having been an umpire at the 2009 World Championships in Hyderabad, and he also officiated at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

Craig is one of Scotland's two current Badminton Europe certified umpires and he is the only Scottish umpire to be Badminton World Federation certified, which is the elite level of umpiring. He regularly officiates at the Bank of Scotland International and the Yonex National Championships, as well as at international Super Series events and he was an umpire at the 2007 Sudirman Cup in Glasgow and the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002.

He said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to officiate in India again, especially having umpired at the World Championships.

“I also umpired at the Commonwealths in 2002, so when Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games arrive I’m looking forward to make it a hat-trick and to sharing the experience with the many other Scottish court officials who work so hard for the sport."
