2011 is a particularly special year for BADMINTONscotland as it marks the Centenary of the formation of the Scottish Badminton Union. In celebration of our 100th birthday we have held a number of events and produced a Centenary Brochure and other items to commemorate this very special occasion. In the Under 19 boys singles unseeded Steven Byers came through to win after a close 3 set final against top seed Steven Stewart 21-19 12-21 21-16. Stewart was to get his revenge in the doubles though when he and Danny Leinster beat Byers and Lewis Gallacher in another 3 set final 21-16 17-21 21-14. In the girls singles top seeded 16 year old Rebekka Findlay beat Fiona Archibald 21-14 21-15 in the final. Fiona and partner Emma Gallacher won the doubles, topping the pool of 5 in a round robin event in which they were undefeated. The mixed doubles was to go to Steven Stewart and Kaity Hall who won 21-11 22-24 21-10 in the final against unseeded Josh Neil and Rebekka Findlay. In the under 15 events Jordan Gilvear took the singles title beating Adam Hall 21-17 21-18 in the final. Jordan also took It was great to see so many youngsters putting in so much effort with many tight games in both the main draw and the consolation events. It was also great to see players coming from further afield, with seven young boys coming up from Northumberland and really enjoying the challenge of playing our top under 15 boys. The Cockburn Centre was a hive of activity last weekend when over 100 youngsters took part in the RSL West of Scotland U15 and U19 Championships.
the doubles with Fraser Whilans beating Adam and James Milton in a close 3 set final 21-15 14-21 21-14. In the girls event 2nd seed Lucy Nevin beat unseeded Hannah Wade in the final 21-19 21-12. Sophie and Hannah Morrison continued their dominance of the girls doubles beating Lucy and Heather MacPherson 21-8 21-7. And Adam and Sophie paired up to take on James and Hannah in the mixed final. It was to be third time lucky for Adam as he and Sophie won in straight sets 21-10 21-14.
