2011 is a particularly special year for BADMINTONscotland as it marks the Centenary of the formation of the Scottish Badminton Union. In celebration of our 100th birthday we have held a number of events and produced a Centenary Brochure and other items to commemorate this very special occasion. A big week for the development team and the future of BADMINTONscotland this week as Dawn Middleton starts her new position as Coaching and Development Manager. Alex Bird will be further progressing the talent identification day and developing ideas for the event, on Wednesday he will be conducting further cashback meetings to decide whether or not it is a viable funding opportunity for BADMINTONscotland. After these meetings he will deliver a Badminton Basics course at Hyndland High School followed by a higher skills session on Thursday at St. Thomas Acquinas School. On Friday he will deliver another badminton basics course at Abercorn SEN School for those with learning difficulties and on Saturday will attend a meeting to discuss next year’s 4 Nations Disability Championships. John Shearer will be coaching at the 3rd of five West Dunbartonshire Bank of Scotland Play Badminton carnivals, on Wednesday. This one will be hosted by the Meadow Centre in Dumbarton, as will the two remaining carnivals on 17 and 24 March respectively. John will also be joining Alex on Thursday to deliver the Higher Skills session at St. Thomas Acquinas School. By Christopher Panks |
