Volunteering with BADMINTONscotland
Scottish badminton relies on volunteers for many different tasks – for example, as court officials, stewards, drivers, hostesses – particularly during the staging of major events.
The efforts of all these volunteers combine to enhance the presentation of badminton to the public, and to the players, officials and visitors from other countries who attend the events in Scotland.

Become a BADMINTONscotland Court Official
The remit of the BADMINTONscotland Court Officials organisation is to provide and maintain the standard of court officials – umpires, service judges and line judges – required for events in Scotland by recruiting, training and grading such officials. It also helps to ensure a universal interpretation of the Laws of Badminton in Scotland.
Former badminton players can continue to participate in the sport by becoming court officials and it is possible they will become involved at a higher level in the game than their playing ever allowed. No experience is needed to start, although having played the game is an advantage. Training and on-going development are provided and new members are always encouraged. Some BADMINTONscotland Court Official members go on to officiate at major events in other countries, and at events organised by the European Badminton Union or by the International Badminton Federation both here and abroad.
For enquiries regarding becoming a Court Official please contact the Secretary (Alastair Wilson), or speak to any BADMINTONscotland Court Official member at any event for more information.
For enquiries regarding becoming a Volunteer in any other roles at BADMINTONscotland events, please email
