Coaching

BADMINTONscotland recognises that increasing participation and membership and achieving success are strongly influenced by the number and quality of coaches available to support players at all levels. Coaches need to be suitably trained and supported to introduce people of all ages to the sport of badminton and to ensure the activities are technically correct, fun and safe for all concerned.

At BADMINTONscotland there is a small team, directed by the organisations Coaching and Management Committees' and supported by Group Coaching Convenors, local badminton development officers and local authority partners working to develop all areas of the coaching spectrum. This work is done as part of the wider United Kingdom Coaching Framework and the Coaching Scotland strategy with England, Wales, sportscoach UK and sportscotland.

BADMINTONscotland is in a period of transition for its coach education courses, like many other sports in the UK, as it implements the United Kingdom Coaching Certificate and is continually working on growing and developing its support to coaches. It hosts a number of Coach workshop/CPD opportunities each season for all interested individuals and runs a Coach Register scheme, details of all of these facilities can be found on this website.

UNITED KINGDOM COACHING CERTIFICATE

UKCC – what does it mean for the coming season?

BADMINTONscotland signed up to the United Kingdom Coaching Certificate in 2004, along with 31 other sports, to work towards the delivery of a structure which ensures parity and quality assurance across coach education within the UK. Working with our Home country colleagues in England and Wales and with the Scottish Qualifications Authority BADMINTONscotland has been making preparations for the transfer of our current coach education system to the new UKCC Certificates in Coaching Badminton over teh past four years and has commenced delivery of the UKCC Badminton courses this season.

UKCC level 1 courses are currently running around Scotland, and there will shorlty be the first UKCC Level 2 course in Scotland. Details of all the coach education course can be found in the calendar of activities on this website. UKCC Level 3 is still progressing through the endorsement stage and further details will be available towards the middle of next season.

The new UKCC Certificate in Coaching Badminton will be recognized by BADMINTONEngland and Welsh Badminton Union and is therefore transferable across Great Britain.
