Glasgow Yonex Championships 2023 and Mary Russell Awards

Glasgow Yonex Championships

First senior titles for Muir and Waring.

Iona Muir had missed out on the Nationals due to injury but stormed back to take her first senior title at the Glasgow Yonex Championships, beating Vibha Raman in the final.

The men’s singles final was a repeat of a semi-final at the Nationals and again Matthew came out on top, having saved a match point in the final, to win 21-16, 16-21, 22-20.

Both level doubles were exciting matches too with Katrina Chan and Ishbel McCallister winning against Sophie Barrie and Nivedha Srinivasan 21-17, 21-19.

Then Robert Dunn and Danny Robson defeated Callum Crangle and Calum Flockhart in another close match 21-13, 21-19.

Flockhart was on court again for the final of the mixed doubles with partner Brooke Stalker but they lost out to the over 40 mixed doubles champions, Mark and Shona Mackay in another thrilling match 11-21, 23-21, 21-18.

Thanks to all who supported the tournament over the weekend – players, parents, group helpers, cafeteria, BSCO, Conway Accident Law Practice and Yonex. A special mention to Morag without whom these events wouldn’t happen.
